Remember the ‘good old days’ when Richard Keys and Andy Gray were presenting Premier League and Champions League football on Sky Sports? No, me neither. They weren’t particularly ‘good’, and we’re very glad they’re ‘old’ days!
In the intervening period, footballing analysis has moved on, Sky have changed their approach and a more reasoned look at the game is usually taken – though not every time.
Keys and Gray, have fallen on their feet, though, since their very public fall from grace five years ago. They now present football on BeIn Sports in the Middle East, including coverage of Chelsea’s trip to Paris to face PSG in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday night.
And that’s when this happened:
Richard Keys starts by sheepishly ‘translating’ an interview with David Luiz before Andy Gray seems to have no scruples by telling everyone what’s being translated into English in his ear and passing it off as his own work, telling us that his ‘French O-Level’ skills have given him the ability to translate such a pitch-side interview from Luiz.
Unfortunately for him, Graeme Souness is on hand to point out that the interview is, in fact, in Portuguese and not French.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. After years of simplistic ‘punditry’ and inane ‘banter’, you’d think Gray would have realised that by now.
