Former England striker and football pundit Alan Shearer has called on the FA to ban Ashley Cole from upcoming World Cup qualifiers as punishment for his disrespectful tweet this week.
Cole tweeted, slamming the FA for their report of the John Terry saga and is selected in Roy Hodgson’s squad to play San Marino and Poland next week. But Shearer believes that banning the player will be a suitable punishment, but he doubts the FA will move quickly to do so.
“Stopping them from playing football will be a deterrent. If they do it quickly – which they haven’t done in the case, which has taken 14 months – if they do it in four to five days, I think it puts a big statement out to the rest of the players,” Shearer said.
“I think the FA can put a big statement out here by actually not fining him but actually banning him on Friday against San Marino.” (Daily Mail)
