Chelsea continued their poor start to the new campaign with a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to FC Porto in the Champions League.
Having struggled to get going in the defence of their Premier League crown in the league, it was widely believed Jose Mourinho’s side would step it up a gear in Europe and cruise through to the knock-out stages. Wrong.
Mourinho benched Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic from the start, while Brazil international Oscar didn’t even travel with the squad to Portugal. They were decisions that perhaps suggested Mourinho had one eye on his side’s league meeting with Southampton at the weekend but was still confident of getting a result against his former club.
But it was to be an unhappy homecoming for the Portuguese coach, with Andre and Maicon scoring either side of a Willian free-kick to stun the Blues.
And as you can image, Twitter went in to meltdown on more than one occasions during the evening’s events. So here are a few tweets that summed up Chelsea’s latest defeat…
So hazard gets the boot but Bran and Fab stay – someone explain pls #CFC

Obviously because the mid-table clash with Southampton at the weekend is priority. Right? RIGHT!?
Bring back Samsung, drop or sell or loan out Ivanovic, send Falcao back to Monaco, drop Fabregas and Matic for some games #CFC

Will probably still start against Southampton.
