Spurs decide to look elsewhere as 16-goal target closes in on Chelsea transfer

According to reports from The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have dropped their interest in Chelsea transfer target Moussa Dembele.

Spurs almost struck a deal for the Fulham striker during the January transfer window according to Sky Sports, but the deal collapsed because the Championship outfit wanted to keep him on loan until the end of the season.

The Lilywhites were expected to revive their interest in the summer but are now pursuing over targets according to The Daily Mail, with Chelsea taking the lead in the race for the 19-year-old’s signature.

Dembele was invited to Stamford Bridge last weekend as a formal ‘guest’ of the club, watching their 3-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City, in a strong indication of Chelsea’s interest in the 6-foot goalscorer.

Dembele, who has bagged 14 goals and six assists in 40 Championship appearances this season, is set to leave Craven Cottage on a free transfer, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign. ┬áBut due to his age, the prodigious striker’s next club will have to pay the Cottagers a compensation fee.

Spurs, meanwhile, are targeting alternative frontmen – including West Brom’s Saido Berahino, Burnley’s Andre Gray and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette.
