Struggling Chelsea set to bring back loanee in January (not Bamford)

Chelsea are set to recall Christian Atsu from his disastrous loan spell at Bournemouth, according to reports from ESPN.

The Ghana international signed for the Blues from Porto 2013, but is yet to make an appearance for the club after being shipped out to Vitesse Arnhem and Everton.

He was sent to newly-promoted Bournemouth over the summer in a bid to boost his development, but the 23-year-old has made just two starts – both in the League Cup – despite injuries to key attacking stars such as Max Gradel and Callum Wilson.

And now reports claim that Chelsea are looking to bring him back next month alongside Patrick Bamford from Crystal Palace.

A clause was inserted into the initial deal with the Cherries, and the London club are eager to trigger it amid fears that Atsu may stagnate.

Even though Guus HIddink’s side are struggling for attacking inspiration, it’s unlikely that the African ace will be handed a first-team role at Stamford Bridge this season, with clubs in England and Germany already lining up loan deal for him.
