John Terry’s defence team have provided a character statement from Fabio Capello in the defender’s fight against racist accusations, The Telegraph state.
The Chelsea defender is under investigation from the FA after being accused of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand in a Premier League game against QPR last season.
The centre-half has revealed his intention to retire from international football due to the proceedings, and was acquitted in the crown court over the charges earlier in the summer.
However, as the football governing body tightens its grip, Terry’s lawyers are thought to have provided a reference from the former England boss in the player’s defence.
It is also believed that Capello, who now manages Russia, is ready to appear in person at the hearing if requested to back up the defender.
Capello walked away from his position as manager of England due to the FA’s stripping of Terry’s captain’s armband, with the pair reunited in the centre-half’s defence.
