Although Chelsea were founded in 1905, it wasn't until the modern Premier League era that the Blues were able to establish themselves among English football's elite.
It was during the late nineties that the club started to attract football's big names, such as Gianfranco Zola, but the club took their success a step further when Roman Abramovich took over as owner in 2003.
Chelsea have quickly become one of England's biggest spenders during transfer windows, attracting big names from all over the world. Thanks to the billions brought in by Abramovich, Chelsea have housed some of Europe's top talent in today's football.
But who makes it in to the Blues' top 30 players of the Premier Leaguer era and, ultimately, who tops the lot?
30. Tore Andre Flo
Tore Andre Flo was a part of the late nineties success, most of the time coming off the bench. He netted a whopping 13 Premier League goals as a substitute.
29. Dan Petrescu
The Romanian Petrescu came to Stamford Bridge in 1995 and would stay for five years, winning the FA Cup, League and UEFA Cup Winner's Cup.
28. Carlo Cudicini
Chelsea fan's Player of the Year in 2001/2002 season, Carlo Cudicini thrived at Stamford Bridge. Many will remember when he saved two penalties in the same week during that campaign.
27. Paulo Ferreira
One of the most reliable and versatile men to take the pitch for Chelsea, and a true clubman. As Mourinho described him as "a player who will never be man of the match but will always score 7/10 for his individual display. Nobody can argue this statement."
26. William Gallas
The underrated defender spent his time in the Premier League with three London clubs - Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. However, it was the Blues who enjoyed the Frenchmen in his prime.
25. Mark Hughes
The only player to win the FA Cup four times in the 20th Century, Mark Hughes played a vital role in the resurgence of Chelsea. Now manager of Stoke City.
24. Gus Poyet
Poyet provided Chelsea with many crucial goals, including the one that secured a third place finish for the Blues, the winner in the 1998 UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, and two in the FA Cup Final against Newcastle.
23. Arjen Robben
While much of his Chelsea career was plagued by injuries, the Dutchmen helped the Blues win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cup trophies.
22. Damien Duff
The Irish winger was one of the first purchases in the Abramovich era, and his "killer instincts", as described by Mourinho, were key to his three successful seasons at Stamford Bridge.
21. Eidur Gudjohnsen
Gudjohnsen played a key role in Chelsea securing a Champions League spot in the 2002/2003 season and helped win the League Cup and Premier League title the following year.
20. Michael Essien
Michael Essien spent his prime years with Chelsea, earning the title of Chelsea Player of the Year by fans at the end of the 2006/2007 campaign.
During his time he helped the Blues win two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the FA Community Shield and the Champions League
19. Joe Cole
The sixth addition of the Abramovich era was a fan favourite while at Chelsea and played an essential role in back-to-back Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.
18. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink
The Dutchmen scored 23 Premier League goals in each of his first two season at Stamford Bridge, and 87 in all competitions over four years.
17. Dennis Wise
The fiery midfielder spent eleven years with Chelsea from 1990 t0 2001 and was the club's most successful captain before John Terry took that crown.
16. Juan Mata
The two-time Chelsea Player of the Year was certainly a fan favorite and played a vital role in winning the Champions League and Europa League, but did not see eye to eye with Jose Mourinho and was subsequently sold to Manchester United.
15. Ricardo Carvalho
One of Mourinho's first signings, Carvalho enjoyed six successful years with Chelsea. The combination of he and Terry were one of the best centre back duos in football at the time.
14. Gianluca Vialli
Vialli joined the Blues in 1996 and later took over as player manager in the 1997/1998 season where, under his tenure, Chelsea won the League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup.
13. Michael Ballack
The German magician in midfield carried Chelsea to their first Champions League final, but it wasn't enough to overcome Manchester United.
12. Roberto Di Matteo
Di Matteo was another key figure n the late 1990s and led the Blues to their first Champions League trophy as interim manager in 2012.
11. Branislav Ivanovic
Ivanovic has played a key role in Chelsea's recent success, and was essential to claiming the 2012 Champions League trophy. Who could forget when he netted late on against Napoli to win 5-4 on aggregate?
10. Marcel Desailly
The French centre back captained the Blues after arriving in 1998 until the end of the 2003/2004 season.
9. Ruud Gullit
After struggling at Stamford Bridge initially in 1995, the Black Tulip found his form and finished second in voting for Player of the Year to Eric Cantona, before becoming the Blue's player manager.
8. Ashley Cole
Cole was the best left back in the world during his time at Chelsea.
7. Claude Makelele
Arguably the best holding midfielder at the time, Makelele helped Chelsea establish themselves as a contender in European football. During his time at Stamford Bridge, the defence and attack both started through Makelele.
6. Eden Hazard
The Belgian winger has only been at Stamford Bridge for a few years now, but the 2014/2015 PFA Player of the Year has played a big role in the club's recent success.
5. Gianfranco Zola
Zola dominated English football in the late 90s and early 2000s with his attacking abilities and excellent free kicks and helped set the standard for the a modern day Chelsea.
4. Petr Cech
Cech collected 162 clean sheets during his Chelsea career and was a brick wall for the Blues for so many years. Now playing for London rivals Arsenal.
3. John Terry
John Terry will bid farewell to Stamford Bridge at the end of this season, but the 2005 PFA Player of the Year (the last defender to win the award) will always be a Chelsea legend.
2. Didier Drogba
The Ivorian striker scored 164 goals in 381 appearances throughout his Chelsea career, including his late equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final forced the game in to extra-time and beyond.. Drogba then went on to score the deciding spot kick in the penalty shoot out to secure the Blues' first ever Champions League crown.

Three time Chelsea Player of the Year, the club goal scoring record holder and the only midfielder to score over 150 goals in the Premier League - there was only ever going to be one No.1 in this list.
