Chelsea will look to break the 50-point barrier and go eight clear at the top of the Premier League table tonight when they face London neighbours Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane.

Since their 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the end of September, Chelsea have won 13 straight top-flight matches to put themselves in the driving seat to regain the title they won in the 2014/15 campaign, and if they win 14 it will be a top-flight record for successive victories in a single season (Arsenal won 14 in 2002, but their run spanned two campaigns).

Their latest three points came in a 4-2 success against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve, and after second-placed Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by Sunderland on Monday, the Blues know they can extend their advantage at the summit against Spurs.

The north London outfit won’t be pushovers, though, and they are in fine form themselves having won four of their last five Premier League matches, scoring 18 times in that period – the latest of those was a 4-1 thrashing of Watford at Vicarage Road as they closed on the top four.

Here is FootballFanCast’s Chelsea XI that will beat Spurs…

GK: Thibaut Courtois

The Belgian stopper’s run of four Premier League clean sheets in a row came to an end in the 4-2 win against Stoke City at Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Eve.

While there was little he could do about Bruno Martins Indi’s close-range finish and Peter Crouch’s side-footed effort which flew into the roof of the net, Courtois will want his Chelsea defenders to be concentrating a little bit more than they were on Saturday – Martins Indi’s goal game just a minute after the interval.

CB: Cesar Azpilicueta

The Spaniard has been one of Chelsea’s most consistent performers ever since making the move to Stamford Bridge from Marseille in 2012, and he continues to impress in the right-sided centre-back role.

Antonio Conte will know that he can rely on his defender, and Azpilicueta himself will be keen to help his side keep the shutout that could lead them to a record 14th consecutive top-flight win – he will need to keep the man he is likely to come up against, Christian Eriksen, quiet.

CB: Gary Cahill

The stand-in Blues skipper has been a huge influence in his side’s exceptional run of form since September, and as well as being a leader at the back and helping them keep a number of clean sheets, the centre-back also showed his importance at the other end of the pitch when he scored the opener in the 4-2 win against Stoke.

The former Bolton man knows his midweek opponent very well too – in-form Spurs striker Harry Kane is an England team-mate - and it is sure to be an intriguing battle between the two.

The Brazilian hasn’t been known for being brilliant defensively during his career, but that is exactly what he has been under the leadership of Antonio Conte on this winning run.

Dominant in the air and in the tackle, Luiz’s defensive game appears to have come on leaps and bounds this season and he will need to be at his best again to try and stop a Spurs frontline that has netted 18 goals in their last five Premier League games.

RWB: Victor Moses

One of the stars of the Premier League season so far, Moses continues to impress on the right-hand side of Antonio Conte’s favoured wing-back system.

While he has shown that he can be a real threat going forward, it is his improvement and willingness to work back and defend when needed that will have really caught the attention of his Italian manager, and it could be needed with Spurs left-back Danny Rose set to get up the pitch to provide another dimension to the north London outfit’s attack.

CM: Nemanja Matic

After a disappointing 2015/16 campaign, some Chelsea supporters may have expected the Serbian midfielder to depart the club during the summer, but instead he has replicated the performances from the previous campaign when the Blues won the Premier League title.

Matic was rested in the win against Stoke with Cesc Fabregas taking his place in the centre of the park, but in what could be a dangerous game against Spurs, the more defensively-minded midfielder should slot back in alongside N’Golo Kante to stop the threat of the in-form Dele Alli.

CM: N’Golo Kante

The Frenchman continues to prove that he is one of the best in the Premier League on current form, but himself and Matic may need to team up to prevent Dele Alli being an influence on this match.

The Spurs attacking midfielder scored two braces in the 4-1 wins over Southampton and Watford in the last week and is at the top of his game.

Kante has carried out the job of man-marking on many occasions since his move to the Premier League, and his energy and intercepting ability could mean Alli is virtually anonymous at White Hart Lane.

LWB: Marcos Alonso

The Spaniard is said to be a slight doubt for the trip to White Hart Lane because of an ankle injury, but following his fine performances on the left-hand side, Antonio Conte will hope that he is fit to start against Spurs.

Similarly to Moses on the opposite flank, Alonso has shown that he can be effective at both ends of the pitch and he will need to work defensively to stop the threat from Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker, who loves to get forward.

RAM: Willian

Pedro has been Antonio Conte’s preferred choice in the attacking position behind Diego Costa in recent weeks but the Spaniard faces a fight to get back into the starting XI after he was suspended for the win against Stoke on Saturday.

Willian came into the side in his place and scored a brace against the Potters, and his impressive attacking performance means he certainly deserves another chance to shine at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

LAM: Eden Hazard

Like a number of his Chelsea team-mates, the Belgian has shown that he is back to his very best following a below-par 2015/16 campaign.

The forward has scored nine goals in 18 Premier League appearances this term, as well as creating 39 chances and picking up two assists, but it is his all-round attacking play that has been quite brilliant to watch as he continues to produce fancy flicks and incisive passes that are helping the Blues blow away top flight team after team.

ST: Diego Costa

Not many people would argue against the striker being the best player in the Premier League this season, and he continues to lead the line for Chelsea magnificently week after week.

His hold-up play is allowing the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian to flourish, while he has 14 goals himself showing that he is quite rightly one of the most feared attackers in the top flight.

Another interesting battle against Spurs centre-backs Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen awaits, but you wouldn’t bet against Costa coming out on top again.
