The Conte effect… This Chelsea star is among the Prem’s most effective

Diego Costa is the pantomime villain of the Premier League and rival supporters enjoyed his woeful form last season. Unfortunately for them, the joke is over and the Spaniard is now back to his best.

A key part of Chelsea’s title-winning side in his first season in the Premier League, the former Atletico Madrid man suffered severely from second-season syndrome in 2015/16 and there was intense speculation that he would return to La Liga during the summer.

Fortunately though, Chelsea have kept him at Stamford Bridge and Antonio Conte has got the best out of the no-nonsense striker once again – which is shown in his Premier League’s statistics.

Playing a part in ten Premier League goals this season, Diego Costa is one of the leading player’s in the division – only Everton’s Romelu Lukaku can equal the Spaniard’s haul of goals and assists.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez is just one behind with nine, whilst Philippe Coutinho has been involved in eight goals.

It shows a new area of Costa’s game, too, as he’s no longer just a goal-grabber and can turn provider to his team-mates, which will certainly help Conte and his push for Premier League glory this season.
