The announcement that Aston Villa forward Christian Benteke has handed in a formal transfer request has certainly pricked the ears of the Premier League’s elite.
The big Belgian has risen from relative obscurity with Genk to become one of the English top flight’s most prolific goalscorers, finishing the season with 19 goals and four assists in 34 domestic appearances.
The 22 year old comes with height, power and aggression, making him an ideal Premier League target man, whilst he’s also demonstrated fantastic vision and movement, striking up a solid partnership with Andreas Weimann.
His prowess and composure in front of goal is also clear to see, with Benteke putting away a variety of chances last season, using both feet as well as his aerial ability to find the net.
The Belgium international, who has six goals and 14 caps for his country, is the epitome of the classic Jose Mourinho style centre-forward, with clear comparisons to Didier Drogba.
According to the tabloids, Villa will settle for a fee of £25million for their talisman forward, however, Chelsea may be put off by the fact they already have the incredibly similar and fellow countryman Romelu Lukaku on the books after an equally impressive year on loan to West Brom.
