So, the first ‘big match’ of the season came and went in relatively boring circumstances. Manchester United and Chelsea, two of the Premiership title favourites battled out a 0-0 drab match. Not many chances, perhaps Man Utd had the better of those, however Chelsea’s defence held strong and gained their valuable point.
Perhaps it was the line-ups which deserved most of the attention however, and rightly so. Chelsea have been linked on several occasions to Man Utd striker Wayne Rooney, but have failed to tempt Moyes to part with the ‘backup forward’. Chelsea’s line up last night did not include a recognised striker in it, whereas Man Utd included Rooney in the line up. Mourinho obviously indicating that he is not comfortable with his forwards, attempting to lure Rooney to London, whereas Moyes was proving he still has a place at Manchester.
Assuming things stay as they are, Mourinho will surely still look to acquire the services of another striker, and as such see below 5 potential replacements for Wayne Rooney who the Portuguese coach could bring to Stamford Bridge.
