Benjamin Pavard scored a stunning goal for France in their 4-3 win against Argentina on Saturday that saw them reach the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup, and some Chelsea fans have urged their club to sign the 22-year-old, rated at £27m by Transfermarkt.
The Stuttgart star usually plays as a centre-back for his club, but he has been a regular for his country at right-back in Russia, and while he has certainly looked capable defensively he showed the impact he can have going forward too with a fantastic half-volley at the weekend.
Meanwhile, incoming Blues boss Maurizio Sarri may well want to strengthen in the full-back and wing-back areas this summer, with finding an upgrade on Victor Moses and Davide Zappacosta perhaps being one of his main transfer priorities.
A portion of Chelsea supporters, who also want the west London outfit to sign another £54m World Cup star, were quick to have their say on Pavard’s goal and latest display via social media, and while one described him as “better than Moses”, another said he would be a “huge upgrade on all our wing-backs”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
How big of a task is it for Chelsea to bid and sign Benjamin Pavard from VfB Stuttgart and send Moses back to Nigeria? Huge upgrade on all our wing backs.
