Distraught Chelsea fans have slammed the power-brokers at Stamford Bridge after news emerged that the club has delayed the process to try and freeze their imposed transfer ban, with the suggestion that they could let it go ahead without challenge.

Banned from making signings for two windows, it was expected that Chelsea would attempt to freeze the embargo through an appeal process with the Court of Arbitration for Sport. However, according to The Telegraph, Chelsea are yet to apply to CAS and there is the potential that they could accept the punishment as is.

Similar sanctions were imposed on Atletico Madrid and Barcelona in recent years, although the Catalan club did get their ban suspended and ended up signing numerous players including Ivan Rakitic, Luis Suarez and Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the summer of 2014.

A turbulent campaign saw Chelsea secure Champions League qualification with a third-place Premier League finish and they still have a chance at European silverware with the Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku on May 29.

Despite the successful conclusion to Maurizio Sarri's first season at the helm, question marks surround Chelsea's squad with Eden Hazard likely to depart, while Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi have been sidelined for the foreseeable future.

With any major squad overhaul likely to be delayed now due to the transfer embargo, Chelsea supporters attacked the Blues decision-makers on Twitter.
