While Marcos Alonso has been brilliant for Chelsea over the course of the two previous seasons, you can’t help but feel that he hasn’t had the competition he has perhaps needed at Stamford Bridge in the form of Emerson Palmieri, who has struggled to make a big impact.

Bertrand won the Champions League with the Blues back in 2012 and while he struggled to forge a career for himself in west London previously, his consistent impressive showings for Southampton over the course of the last four seasons suggest he is ready to be a regular for the Blues again, and he would be effective from a both an attacking and defensive point of view.
