Prospective new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri could be in for a busy summer transfer window if he replaces Antonio Conte, as he looks to make the club Premier League title challengers again following a miserable defence of the top flight trophy they won in 2017 last term.

The Daily Mail reports that the former Napoli boss has already identified some of the names he would like to bring to Stamford Bridge when he gets the job, and knowing the window shuts early on August 9 he will want to get to work straightaway.

The 59-year-old will be working in conjunction with director Marina Granovskaia to identify the individuals that will help the club, who have been urged to sign a speedy £13.5m Premier League flop by the fans, take that step forward so they are competitors for the Premier League title and in the Champions League, and strengthening out wide and up top may well be his priority.

While the Italian will have the stars in mind that he wants to bring to west London, perhaps he should also be considering bringing some familiar faces back to Stamford Bridge too, as there are plenty of ex-Blues out there that would make a big difference for them on the pitch now in their bid to win more trophies.

Here are three former Chelsea players Sarri must look to re-sign this summer…

While Marcos Alonso has been brilliant for Chelsea over the course of the two previous seasons, you can't help but feel that he hasn't had the competition he has perhaps needed at Stamford Bridge in the form of Emerson Palmieri, who has struggled to make a big impact.

Bertrand won the Champions League with the Blues back in 2012 and while he struggled to forge a career for himself in west London previously, his consistent impressive showings for Southampton over the course of the last four seasons suggest he is ready to be a regular for the Blues again, and he would be effective from a both an attacking and defensive point of view.

One of Sarri's priorities when he is appointed as the new Chelsea boss may well be to bring in a new right-sided attacker, with neither Willian nor Pedro really impressing last season.

Cuadrado was something of a flop for the Blues previously having made just 15 appearances in all competitions – scoring no goals – for them before he was sold to Juventus, and five goals and 10 assists in 29 outings in total in 2017/18 show what he is capable of.

He has also been impressive for Colombia at the 2018 World Cup, which suggests that he could make an impact under Sarri if he returned to Stamford Bridge this summer.

With Alvaro Morata struggling in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, Olivier Giroud getting no younger and Michy Batshuayi's future potentially in doubt, one of Sarri's priorities may well be to bring a new centre-forward to west London this summer.

Costa left the Blues having been told he was surplus to requirements by Antonio Conte last summer, but if the Italian manager leaves he could well be tempted by a move back to the English capital if he feels he has unfinished business there.

Chelsea certainly missed his presence and goals last term, and having impressed for Atletico and Spain during the World Cup, he could be a brilliant addition for them.
