The Diego Costa saga at Stamford Bridge refuses to go away.

For those of you who may have been dead to the world for the past few days, the rumours suggest that Chelsea's main man and top scorer is destined for pastures new.

When I say pastures new, I mean China and a fat wage packet.

It really is hard to keep up with the whole thing, as stories seem to be flying all over the place, but, it's widely being claimed that Tianjin Quanjian will offer the Spaniard an astonishing £30m-a-year in wages, as well as a huge fee to tempt the Blues to sell.

Antonio Conte has since denied knowledge of a bid being prepared, insisting the striker won't part ways with the club, yet isn't the end of it, however. Add into the mix that Costa was left out of the club's most recent fixture against Leicester City over an alleged dispute with the club in regards to his fitness, and the fact he is now training alone, and you really do have one big mess.

With, it seems, nobody at the club having even the foggiest idea of what is about to happen, it should be all systems go for Chelsea and their transfer experts this January to prepare for such an astronomical loss.

One man who has been linked with a move to the league leaders is Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata, and we think that Chelsea should seal a deal for the Spain international regardless of the outcome of the Costa saga. Here are THREE reasons why...

Misfit at Madrid

Morata is a man under-utilised at Real Madrid. The striker isn't struggling in terms of his personal performances, having scored nine times this season already, it is more the fact he simply not getting the game time he deserves. While it is admittedly hard to bench the impressive Karim Benzema, Morata certainly possesses all the qualities necessary to successfully lead the line for Los Blancos, but will continue to play second fiddle to the Frenchman - and of course Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale - so long as both remain at the club.

It would be a different story at Chelsea, though. If Costa leaves, he would be the main man without a doubt. If Costa stays, the Spaniard could strike up a formidable partnership with his international team-mate, or even supersede him if Costa still has a case of the sulkies. Win win.

Conte's man

The reason Alvaro Morata ended up moving back to Real Madrid and putting a hefty price over his head was because of his performances for Juventus. While he didn't score tonnes and tonnes of goals, he still managed 27 in two seasons for the Italian side, which is impressive considering he was only 22 upon joining the Serie A outfit.

Although he didn't coach Morata for a full campaign, Conte was in Turin when the deal for the striker was brokered, suggesting that he's a big fan of the silky attacker.

Chelsea are lacking in the forward department. That statement seems odd seeing as they have the league's top scorer and one of Europe's most highly rated youngsters.

But with everything going on with Costa, and Michy Batshuayi yet to really find his feet (although I have no doubt he will), the second half the season could be a different story for the Blues. They need to invest in a forward regardless, so why not make it one who will be worth it in the long-term rather than opt for short-term solutions as they have too often in the past with the like of Loic Remy and Demba Ba?
