The Blaugrana were unable to register players between the winter of 2015 up until the opening of the transfer market next month.
It meant summer signings Arda Turan and Alex Vidal have been unable to play for the club so far despite arriving in the summer.
Now, with the threat looming, Los Blancos could be about to splash the cash on Hazard before they too are unable to register players.
The Belgian superstar has suffered a severe drop in form this term as the Blues struggle towards the bottom of the league after his heroics last term.
Hazard was voted Player of the Year following his excellent displays that led the Stamford Bridge outfit to the Premier League title, leading to links with a move to the Spanish capital.
