Chelsea have agreed their first signing since their transfer ban was overturned, securing a deal to snap up teenager Bryan Fiabema, per Goal.

What’s the word?

The Blues were initially banned from bringing in any players in the January transfer window but an appeal from the club was successful.

As such, they are able to splash the cash in the winter window and have already begun their moves with a deal to bring in the Norwegian teenager.

Goal also reports that manager Frank Lampard has a number of targets to bolster his squad as the January window looms, with Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha and Villarreal’s Samuel Chukwueze all on his shortlist.

The perfect strategy

Chelsea should continue in this vein.

Fiabema is a promising youngster who has already been capped at both U15 and U16 level by Norway and he can grow and develop at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have had a great deal of success already this season with the introduction of the likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori to the first-team. Abraham, for example, has hit double figures for goals already this season and Mount and Tomori have both been called up by England.

Suddenly, they have a pathway from the academy to the starting XI and one feels that investing in that route could be a way of ensuring they stay on top form for years to come.

The deal to sign Fiabema should merely be the first of many as the club aim to hoover up the best young talent available.
