Before we start, let us just address the massive problem that is Chelsea's transfer ban. The Blues have been hit with a two-window ban, as you will know, and they had an appeal for it to be overturned rejected back in May (BBC), so things don't look great.

However, many publications, including The Express, have been profiling who the Blues will be looking to sign if the ban is lifted, and one name that should have fans very excited is Mauro Icardi.

What's the story?

Spanish outlet AS report Alvaro Morata and Icardi could be trading places.

Morata swapped Stamford Bridge for the Wanda Metropolitano in January and has been better on loan with Atletico Madrid than he was at Chelsea.

However, he isn't the man who can fill the shoes of Antoine Griezmann, as the Frenchman confirmed he would be leaving the club back in May.

To replace Griezmann, the reports have claimed that Diego Simeone's side want to replace him with a world class forward, and Icardi is certainly one of those, although if the opportunity arises then Chelsea simply have to ensure that they're the ones swapping Morata for Icardi.

No Brainer

What more is there to say on this story? Chelsea have long suffered from a striker problem. Even at the moment, the three strikers on their books are Olivier Giroud, Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata, with Gonzalo Higuain leaving to return to Juventus after a woeful loan spell at Stamford Bridge.

The striking options have been shocking and it is not fondly remembered that Morata set back the Londoners a whopping £60m back in July 2017 (BBC). With that in mind, at least if he does find his way to Inter Milan, where former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte is desperate to be reunited with the striker, then they may benefit by welcoming Icardi.

Icardi has had his own problems, although scoring goals is certainly not one of them. The Argentine was stripped of the captaincy at the San Siro back in February and with contract talks going nowhere, a summer exit looks extremely likely, so it will be up to the Blues to bring in Icardi for Morata if their transfer ban does get lifted.
