Dunk has been a key member of the Seagulls’ squad this season, making 27 appearances in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
The 28-year-old has won one England cap and Naylor believes that he could well be nearing an exit from the AMEX Stadium.
Asked about the potential size of the club’s transfer budget this summer, he answered: “The funds would be boosted if Lewis Dunk goes, which I suspect could be the case irrespective of which division Brighton are in next season.”
Dunk has proved that he is good enough to make the step up from Brighton.
This is an exceptional central defender who has the numbers to show it.
Idiots Abroad: Do you know where these famous Brits are playing now?
Per WhoScored, he averages 1.2 tackles per game, 1.6 interceptions, 3.2 clearances, a pass completion rate of 87.1%, plus one shot per game. He is dribbled past just 0.6 times per match.
Those are the sorts of numbers that earn you a big move.
Add into that the fact that he is valued at £18m by Transfermarkt and a club could be picking up a genuine bargain this summer. That’s unless the likes of Manchester City or Chelsea end up paying the £45m that was touted last summer.
Both outfits would have the financial firepower to pay for him but whether they still see him as an option after previously being linked remains to be seen. The fact he is homegrown, however, is a definite plus point.
Dunk has Premier League experience, is English, and has paid his dues at Brighton; he would be a very good signing for any interested club.
