Chelsea wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi is still pondering his future on the blue side of London as the Sun reports he will only sign a new deal if certain demands are met by the club with playing time and the managerial situation amongst his biggest worries.
The youngster has been out of action for a while now with a serious injury and his season ended rather abruptly, but the future still remains bright for him. Here are two reasons why Hudson-Odoi should definitely sign a new Blues contract and ensure that bright future is spent at Chelsea…
If the Sun’s report is to be believed, Hudson-Odoi’s chief concern is the amount of game time he’ll get come next season and this will be the thing that makes or breaks this deal. However, judging by the numbers he achieved last season and the appearances he managed to muster, improving that in the upcoming season – injury permitting – shouldn’t be too much of a problem.
18-year-old youngsters can rarely expect a steady set of games throughout the season, but Hudson-Odoi recorded 10 appearances in the Premier League and nine in the Europa League in the 2018/19 campaign. Not to mention that he lit both competitions on fire, scoring four and assisting three altogether, which is an excellent return for a young player.
If he can keep up that level of performance, his chances are bound to come in abundance – especially if Frank Lampard takes the helm as expected, with the former midfielder reportedly keen to make Hudson-Odoi a key focal point.

Even if all of the above was not enough for Hudson-Odoi, the supposed five-year deal Chelsea are willing to put on the table, as per the Sun’s claims, should be the main reason and biggest proof of the club’s faith in the lad. It’s not often young players are given chances at Chelsea either, but Hudson-Odoi is already proving the exception to the rule as a teenager – surely that alone is worth something.
On top of that, now that Eden Hazard is officially a Real Madrid player, Chelsea are prepared to give Hudson-Odoi the Belgian’s no. 10 shirt, which is a big sign of respect and faith and also further alludes to the idea of him being a key part of the new-look Chelsea.
Bearing all of that in mind, it’s fair to assume that the Blues are willing to give this youngster a big chance next season. With Hazard departing and the transfer ban in place, Chelsea can’t really afford not to.
