Jose Mourinho was indignant earlier on today in his appearance on Sky Sports’ Goals on Sunday, using the show as a platform to criticise Martin Atkinson’s refereeing of his side’s 1-1 draw with Burnley in the Premier League.
Understandably, the Portuguese manger wasn’t too happy with the Ashley Barnes tackle on Nemanja Matic, saying: ‘The consequence for Matic could be end of career’.
However, a video has emerged of Mourinho’s reaction to a very similar foul that John Obi Mikel committed against Mikel Arteta last season.
Unsurprisingly, the Chelsea manager saw this one differently:
And there would appear to be very little difference between the two incidents; both are high, over the top, dangerous and illegal:
While no one wants two see either of these sorts of challenges in the game, Mourinho doesn’t have much of a leg to stand on if he’s going to defend his players when they make commit such fouls.
