Chelsea supporters on Twitter have surprisingly been celebrating the news that former manager Antonio Conte has won his legal battle against the Europa League finalists, who must now pay the Italian £9m in compensation, according to The Times.

Conte conquered the Premier League in a stunning debut season at Stamford Bridge, but a troubled second campaign saw the title-winning manager sacked after failing to secure Champions League football.

Following his termination, Conte began legal proceedings against the west London club in order to get the money promised in the final, unfulfilled, year of his contract.

The 49-year old has spent a year away from football while contesting the case against Chelsea, but now looks set to return to the managerial spotlight with Inter Milan.

Conte's compensation agreement takes the Blues' total expenditure paid out to sacked managers past £90m under Roman Abramovich and some Chelsea fans have sided against their club on this occasion.
