So Chelsea’s summer-long pursuit of Everton defender John Stones didn’t end successfully.
As the Toffees stood firm and pushed back on the Blues’ over-inflated advances, Chelsea were forced to scramble for alternatives on deadline day. This resulted in the rather underwhelming double capture of Papy Djilobodj of Nantes and Reading’s Michael Hector.
But apart from everyone scratching their heads at such strange deadline day dealings by Jose Mourinho, the ‘Special One’ did complete some pretty nifty business earlier in the summer.
The arrival of Barcelona’s Pedro is the obvious one, while youngsters Kenedy and Nathan hold a lot of promise for the future.
However, given Chelsea’s awful start to their title defence, you have to wonder whether Mourinho’s transfer business was actually any good at all?
Have your say in the poll below by voting a thumbs up for the new Chelsea signings you think will be a success at Stamford Bridge, and then a thumbs down for the ones you think will flop…
