Willian signing to push out Chelsea star?

Chelsea's Juan Mata

Chelsea’s attempts to hijack Willian could leave Juan Mata’s future at the club in the question, according to the Express.

The Blues are closing in on the Brazilian’s signature, despite him having a medical at Tottenham Hotspur.

But with no deal signed at Spurs, Chelsea have swooped in after Roman Abramovich offered Anzhi president, and fellow Russian Suleyman Kerimov, £32million. Jose Mourinho is hoping the attraction of Champions League football, something Tottenham can’t offer, will convince the 25-year-old to sign a contract at Stamford Bridge.

But with another attacking midfielder potentially coming in to the club, it has led to suggestions that Juan Mata will be surplus to requirements for the Portuguese manager. Mata must compete with Frank Lampard, Michael Essien, Ramires and Marco van Ginkel are central options, while Oscar, Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard, Victor Moses and Andre Schurrle for a starting place, with just 5 midfield roles available in the starting line-up.

Willian’s arrival could push Mata out of Stamford Bridge, with Manchester United keen on signing the Spaniard. David Moyes is still looking for a creative midfielder, after missing out on Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara, and the Scot could look at the Chelsea star to fill the gap in his new team.

The Blues are interested in United striker Wayne Rooney, and it’s suggested that a compromise could happen before September 2nd that sees the two stars swap clubs.

Are Chelsea fans excited about Willian? Would they be content to see Mata leave?
