As reported by The Express, Real Madrid are set to attempt to sign Chelsea star Alvaro Morata for the third time in his career this summer after a roller-coaster first season at Stamford Bridge.

What's the story?

Morata's side were on the receiving end of a damaging defeat on Sunday but on a personal level the Spaniard will have been delighted to score for the second successive match having gone the majority of 2018 with a goal.

However, are his days at Chelsea numbered?

The Express reckon Real Madrid are in the market to re-sign the forward, especially if they fail to land Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.

Signed for a reported £60m last summer, is the player set for a shock return to La Liga?

Is this a likely move?

If these reports are true, it would appear that Real Madrid certainly can't quit the Spanish international.

Emerging from their youth system, he failed to make the grade and was eventually allowed to leave to join Juventus where two seasons were enough to convince the Bernabeu outfit to re-sign the player.

That move involved a buyback clause and he'd likely cost far more this time round, meaning the prospect of this move going through seems slim.

He has plenty to offer to Chelsea still despite an up and down season. Initially starting the season strongly, Morata's goal drought in early 2018 threatened to completely derail his Blues career.

However, with two goals in two games taking his tally for the season to 14 goals, he still has a chance of ending the campaign strongly and showing he can be the club's number one striker next term.
