Chelsea have been excellent in the Premier League this season and have excelled since a disappointing defeat to Arsenal two months ago, with the Blues winning every league match since to rise to top of the standings.
The Blues, who lead Liverpool on goal difference, head into this weekend’s stern clash with Manchester City just one-point ahead of Pep Guardiola’s men but will be confident of a positive result, having adopted a system that no side has managed to overcome yet.
Led by Antonio Conte, Chelsea have been formidable in recent months and the rapid improvement has surprised Blues legend Gianfranco Zola, who discussed Chelsea’s form with Sky Sports.
“I know how Antonio works, how good he is. To see the work flourishing so quickly is a surprise but it’s all down to the work he does and his ability as a coach. “(Not playing in Europe) is an advantage, certainly, because there are teams who have more games, but that’s not a guarantee.”
“You need to work hard to win the league because there five or six teams who have the credentials to do that. They have to keep performing the way they are doing and if they do that they stand a good chance.”
Chelsea will move four points clear of City with a victory this weekend but a defeat would open the door for the Citizens and Liverpool to leapfrog them in the table, whilst Arsenal could do the same if goal difference works in their favour.
Having won seven consecutive matches in the Premier League though, including a 2-1 win which ended Tottenham’s unbeaten run last weekend, Conte’s side will be confident of another top-class result that will see the Blues remain top of the pile.
