Former Liverpool man Stan Collymore has been impressed with the performances of Jurgen Klopp's side, as well as Chelsea's displays under Antonio Conte, but the outspoken pundit is still tipping Manchester City as Premier League champions.

The Citizens have hit a blip in recent weeks, dropping to third in the standings after a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough at the weekend, whilst Liverpool and Chelsea stormed ahead of Pep Guardiola's side with 6-1 and 5-0 victories respectively.

Whilst Liverpool and Chelsea are currently in a strong vein of form, Collymore wrote in his column for The Daily Mirror that the pair will be left battling for a top-four spot come May and instead tipped City for glory.

"Despite two fantastic performances from your sides over the weekend, I still think you’ll be battling it out for a Champions League spot come May but not for the Premier League crown."

"The only reason Pep Guardiola’s side aren’t comfortably top is because they’ve drawn their last three Premier League home games and they could quite easily have turned those results into three wins."

"But with the ability they have got, and the fact that players like Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling have freshness and youthfulness combined with experience, means they could easily go on a six-game streak which sees them top of the pile by Christmas."

The top of the Premier League is extremely tight, with just five points separating top-spot from fifth place, and all of the title-chasing clubs face stern tests between now at the New Year.

Liverpool have Southampton, West Ham and Everton to face before a huge clash on New Year's Eve against Manchester City, whilst Chelsea tackle Manchester City and Tottenham within the next three weeks.

Collymore's suggestion of a six-match winning run for City would certainly be a big ask too, as they face Chelsea and Arsenal during that period, as well as having to navigate through Champions League clashes with Borussia Monchengladbach and Celtic.
