Ahead of tonight's huge Premier League clash between Crystal Palace and Manchester City, news broke of Malky Mackay's sacking as Wigan Athletic's manager.

The news of a Championship manager losing his job wouldn't usually have that much relevance to a Premier League clash, however, less than a year ago, the Eagles were being linked with a move for the former Cardiff City gaffer.

Following Tony Pulis' shock departure, Mackay was deemed frontrunner for the vacancy at Selhurst Park, however, the Scotsman was never appointed and, fast forward a few months on, Palace fans will be delighted that was the case with club hero Alan Pardew doing a fine job since moving from Newcastle United.

Despite facing the Premier League champions tonight - a win would see Pardew's side jump back above Everton into 11th place - the Eagles faithful were pre-occupied with the Mackay news and thanking the footballing gods that he never took the hot seat.
