According to L’Expression (via talkSPORT), Crystal Palace are considering a January bid for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.

What’s the Story?

Much was expected of Islam Slimani when Leicester signed him for a club record fee of £29million last summer. The reigning Premier League champions at the time were looking to bolster their squad ahead of a maiden Champions League campaign.

However, despite much fanfare on his arrival at the King Power, the Algerian has failed to replicate the form that made him a feared threat at Sporting CP.

Now, according to reports in France, Crystal Palace are looking to provide an escape route for the 29-year-old and help him revive his Premier League career.

However, it is also thought that Ligue 1 club Rennes are keen to land the striker, who is valued at £22.5million by Transfermarkt.

How good has Slimani been this season?

Not very! In fairness to the Algerian international, he has had very little game time to establish himself in the first team. In fact, Slimani has started just one Premier League game and his only goals have come in the Carabao Cup.

Unless new Foxes boss Claude Puel takes an instant shine to Slimani, his days in the East Midlands may be numbered.

Would Slimani be a good signing for Crystal Palace?

There is no question that Roy Hodgson needs to significantly strengthen his attacking options in January. However, it seems unlikely that he would want another imposing target man at the club, considering Christian Benteke currently holds that mantle for Palace.

This move will likely depend on whether Benteke remains at the club. Should the Belgian opt to leave Selhurst Park, Slimani could be a fantastically astute replacement.
