According to The Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, Nabil Bentaleb snubbed Crystal Palace in favour of a move to Newcastle.
Well, the south Londoners were reportedly rejected by the former Tottenham midfielder, who was having a medical with the Magpies on Monday afternoon.
Bentaleb is yet to make a first-team appearance this season after being banished by Schalke, who were unhappy with his unprofessional behaviour which included turning up late, and failing to attend German lessons.
In total, the 35-cap Algeria international made 97 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, scoring 19 goals and recording nine assists, while also amassing 22 yellow cards and one straight red.
Ryder reports that the 25-year-old is expected to team up with Steve Bruce on loan until the end of the season.
The news that Bentaleb has snubbed Roy Hodgson’s side means that the Eagles have suffered a transfer blow, if recent reports are anything to go by.
Le Buteur reported that there was ‘a very good chance’ that the Algerian would end up at Crystal Palace this month, while Sky Sports also said that a source confirmed to Sky Germany that the Eagles were interested in Schalke’s No.10.
So, following Ryder’s revelation that Bentaleb decided to reject the south Londoners in favour of a move to Tyneside, Palace’s interest has been unsuccessful on this occasion.

It’s not like they should be desperate for centre-midfield options however, as Hodgson has James McCarthy, James McArthur, Luka Milivojevic, Cheikhou Kouyate, Jeffrey Schlupp, Max Meyer and Jairo Riedewald to compete for the positions in the middle of the park.
The former England manager has, however, lost a midfielder this month as Victor Camarasa’s loan spell was cut short, although seeing as the Spaniard was handed just five Premier League minutes, he may not be that big a loss.
