Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Sun reported that the Eagles are prepared to allow Christian Benteke to leave the club on loan in an attempt to kickstart his faltering career.

Roy Hodgson has seen his striking ranks bolstered this month with the addition of Turkey international Cenk Tosun on loan from Everton, and as a result, is believed to be ready to listen to offers for the Belgium international who has seriously struggled for form over the last few years.

Since scoring 15 Premier League goals and 17 in all competitions following his first campaign as a Palace player, the man who cost the Eagles £27m has managed to score just four goals in 66 appearances since that 2016/17 season.

It truly has been a severe fall from grace for the 29-year-old who used to be one of the most feared strikers in the top-flight, and his struggles of late are epitomised by the south Londoners' decision to let him leave on loan.

The Sun also add that there is a possibility that Benteke will rejoin his former side Aston Villa, a club who he netted 49 goals in 101 games for before departing to sign for Liverpool.

Let's see how the Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To kick off the reaction, Jason said that this update was "an indictment of our approach" before going on to say that it is the Eagles' lack of ambition that is making Benteke struggle for goals.

Elsewhere, this fan said that it is "time to move on" for the Belgian, who has "lost his way lately" - they also add that Palace "can't keep paying him £100k-a-week".

Staggeringly, the former Genk man actually earns £120k-a-week at Selhurst Park.

Meanwhile, Matt made reference to the news that Connor Wickham could be joining Sheffield Wednesday, making the fair point that if he and Benteke leave the club, "surely we're bringing a striker in".

While it remains to be seen if Palace bring another striker in, Hodgson would be left extremely short in attack if both of the forwards leave this month.

This supporter named John said that a loan move to a club from aboard would be "fine" but he can't understand the logic in loaning Benteke to a Premier League rival, who could be improved by having the Belgian in their ranks.

Finley seemed happy with the news, tweeting "praise the lord" when hearing of Benteke's possible exit on loan.

It's the dawn of a new decade in the Premier League, but how much do you know about the last 10 years?

Lastly, Carl asked if the Palace No.17 could be involved in a loan swap with Tottenham right-back Kyle Walker-Peters - significantly, discussions have taken place over the defender signing for the Eagles, while Spurs have reportedly been offered Benteke's services.
