Alexander Sorloth has aimed at sly dig at his parent club Crystal Palace for their limited ambitions.

The Norway international left Selhurst Park back in the summer to join Turkish outfit Trabzonspor on a two-year loan deal, where he has been in fine form alongside former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge in attack.

Sorloth has scored 12 goals in 23 appearances, while also recording four assists for the Süper Lig side.

In contrast, the 24-year-old scored just once in 20 appearances for the Eagles following a £9m move from FC Midtjylland - even that sole strike came against Championship side Swansea in the Carabao Cup.

What did he say?

Sorloth told Trabzonspor's official magazine (via Gazete Futbol): "There were two other reasons for my decision. I knew that the Süper Lig was relatively balanced.

“At the end of the season, you also get the chance to present yourself in the Europa League or the Champions League.

“Another reason was the strong team and the corresponding title ambitions of Trabzonspor. In comparison, Crystal Palace is a club whose primary goal is always to stay up.”

Sly dig at the south Londoners

Sorloth has basically aimed a subtle dig towards his parent club here, in saying that their ambitions do not match those of Trabzonspor's.

While both Trabzonspor and Palace's situations are vastly different, you can understand Sorloth's apparent ill-feeling towards the Eagles for the way in which he was treated following his move to the Premier League.

The Norwegian was handed just four Premier League starts by Roy Hodgson after his £9m move to England, before being loaned out to Belgian side Gent for the second half of last season.

Upon his return, he was then shipped out on the two-year loan to Trabzonspor.

In fairness, you can understand why he sounds a tad bitter towards Palace, although it must be noted that Trabzonspor and Palace's fortunes are vastly different in terms of the quality of their respective divisions.
