Lots of Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react to Wayne Hennessey’s performance against Manchester City on Saturday evening, and it’s safe to say that they’re torn over what they saw.
The 85-cap Wales international was making just his first Premier League appearance of the season, as Spanish glovesman Vicente Guaita has held the No.1 shirt throughout the campaign so far – he was only missing due to an injury.
The former Wolves keeper has been a disliked figure amongst the Palace fans on Twitter before, with the Eagles faithful seemingly unconvinced by his shot-stopping abilities.
Against the Citizens, however, he made a few impressive saves and managed to keep the scoring down to just two – as Pep Guardiola’s side are capable of sticking eight goals past teams such as Watford, that in itself should make Hennessey somewhat proud of his performance.
Despite that though, not all of the Eagles supporters on Twitter were left convinced by Hennessey’s performance – the fans below seem to be split over what they saw from him…
People criticising Hennessey for yesterday’s performance reeks of desperately trying to find a story to fit a pre-defined narrative. He was easily the best Palace player yesterday. Without him the result would have been the hammering the balance of play justified.

Hennessey did well today.
To come in for his first game of the season and perform like that was impressive. Well done WH

The best team won, and as a fan of the game, it was impressive to watch how they play it. No complaints about Hennessey at all, in fact nobody had a shocker. @brumeagle & I drank too much beer & laughed till we cried. That is what a day at football is all about. #cpfc #mcfc

A lot of Hennessey bashing going on. Of course I’d rather Guiata in goal, but he kept us in the game before they scored and the scoreline respectable after. I’m not having it the Guiata stops either of them going in. #CPFC

Maybe I’m too past the point of seeing logic in terms of Hennessey, but I don’t agree he played well yesterday. A few good saves – yes, but is that not a basic requirement? His command of his area was non existent & his distribution woeful. Get Guaita back ASAP. #cpfc

Serious weaknesses: Hennessey reverting to type for the CIty goals, and lack of Palace edge going forwards. Still, were it not for those 93 seconds, we’d have been very happy with the first half. #CPFC #CRYMCI

At this point I’d rather have a wooden spoon in goal than Hennessey #CPFC
