Crystal Palace fans disappointed as they look set to miss out on cut-price Josh Maja deal

Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter in disappointed fashion after it was revealed that Sunderland’s in-form forward Josh Maja is on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, for a minimal fee that could rise to £3.5m as reported by Sky Sports, and first by L’Equipe on Wednesday.

The aforementioned Sky Sports article states that the 20-year-old was a target for the Eagles, as well as Neil Warnock’s Cardiff, but will now be swapping League One for Ligue 1 having decided not to renew his contract with the Black Cats.

Maja has scored 15 league goals so far this season (as per Whoscored), helping Jack Ross’ side mount a charge for an immediate return to the Championship. However, the Wearsiders have now decided to cash in on the youngster rather than lose him for nothing in the summer, with a move to France on the cards despite admiring glances from the Premier League.

The Eagles desperately need another goalscorer, as only Jordan Ayew has netted in the league out of every striking option Roy Hodgson has at his disposal – even then, the Ghanaian has just one strike to his name, as per Transfermarkt.

With the days ticking away in the window, fans of the south London club are getting panicky over their complete lack of signings, and appear especially disappointed that the club didn’t secure an extremely cheap move for a very promising young prospect…
