Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to praise Jairo Riedewald for his performance against Watford, following a long period of non-enforced absence.
The Netherlands international – who was signed by Frank de Boer for £7.9m – made his first Premier League appearance of the campaign against the Hornets, coming on as a half-time substitution for Jeffrey Schlupp.
The 23-year-old really isn’t a Roy Hodgson favourite and has struggled for action since De Boer left Selhurst Park, although he fared surprisingly well at Vicarage Road at short notice – Riedewald perhaps didn’t expect to get onto the pitch before Schlupp suffered an injury.
He completed 83.3% of his passes, showcasing some adventure down the left and getting the ball to Wilfried Zaha’s feet more effectively than Schlupp could, while Riedewald also made one interception, one clearance and completed one dribble in his 45-minute cameo.
Really glad to hear Jairo had a decent cameo today. There’s a good player in there – I’ve no idea whether the player, the club or both are to blame for not fulfilling his potential so far, but I really hope it’s the start of an upturn in fortunes for him. #cpfc

This Palace fan was “really glad” to hear that the Dutchman had a good game against Watford, stating that there is a good player in there somewhere before expressing confusion over who is to blame for his stagnation in recent years.
I was surprised how well he did, he improved on Schlupp’s below par performance. Good on Jairo, proved me wrong today

Was very good when he came on. Schlupp didn’t get the ball to feet for Wilf anywhere near enough in the 1st half but Jairo did and played it out from the back well and defensively was solid

These two supporters also praised Riedewald for his effective showing, emphasising our aforementioned point about getting the ball to Zaha more effectively than Schlupp could.
He’s a very good player Was one of Ajax’s best players when we signed ..I hope he gets more game time now..unpolished gem

Passing was brilliant, always looking to move people up the pitch and there wasn’t many others doing that today! Really hope he gets some more time soon and it all goes well for him.

Elsewhere, these two fans continued the praise for the Ajax academy graduate, with one saying that his “passing was brilliant” while another said that he is an “unpolished gem”.
Control excellent, passing really good. Positioning a bit lacking but would like to see more of him

Lastly, this supporter also commended Riedewald on his passing ability while additionally stating that his “control was excellent”.
