Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to praise Jairo Riedewald for his performance against Watford, following a long period of non-enforced absence.

The Netherlands international - who was signed by Frank de Boer for £7.9m - made his first Premier League appearance of the campaign against the Hornets, coming on as a half-time substitution for Jeffrey Schlupp.

Riedewald - formerly of Ajax - didn't appear once in the Premier League last season, with his last outing in England's top-flight coming against Brighton in April 2018 towards the end of a 3-2 win.

The 23-year-old really isn't a Roy Hodgson favourite and has struggled for action since De Boer left Selhurst Park, although he fared surprisingly well at Vicarage Road at short notice - Riedewald perhaps didn't expect to get onto the pitch before Schlupp suffered an injury.

He completed 83.3% of his passes, showcasing some adventure down the left and getting the ball to Wilfried Zaha's feet more effectively than Schlupp could, while Riedewald also made one interception, one clearance and completed one dribble in his 45-minute cameo.

This Palace fan was "really glad" to hear that the Dutchman had a good game against Watford, stating that there is a good player in there somewhere before expressing confusion over who is to blame for his stagnation in recent years.

These two supporters also praised Riedewald for his effective showing, emphasising our aforementioned point about getting the ball to Zaha more effectively than Schlupp could.

Elsewhere, these two fans continued the praise for the Ajax academy graduate, with one saying that his "passing was brilliant" while another said that he is an "unpolished gem".

Lastly, this supporter also commended Riedewald on his passing ability while additionally stating that his "control was excellent".
