Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter in frustrated fashion after Wilfried Zaha received a charge from the Football Association for improper conduct, following his dismissal against Southampton on Wednesday night (as per the BBC).
The Ivory Coast international received just a yellow card initially after a spat with James Ward-Prowse, before being given his marching orders just seconds later after sarcastically clapping referee Andre Marriner’s decision.
Zaha opened the scoring on the night, before Ward-Prowse incidentally equalised late in the second half. The 26-year-old’s dismissal appeared to be a build up of frustration of a number of fouls against him that weren’t given, having been upended four times on the night (via Whoscored) – that figure is merely the amount that were awarded by Marriner.
Who is your club’s worst ever January signing? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have picked theirs in the video below and they didn’t disappoint…
Following the charge, the former Manchester United winger now has until 6pm on February 5 to respond, and Palace fans are understandably angry if their reactions on Twitter is anything to go by…
So Zaha will get a 3 game ban now. Seriously where were his teammates stopping him and dragging him off the pitch? Let himself down and was let down.#cpfc

Any punishment for ref after his terrible performance. I think not. He caused the trouble to start with if he deals with the zaha foul correctly you don’t get the reaction!!

So here we go – @fa ‘s chance to really teach Zaha a lesson. It’ll be maximum fine maximum ban without a doubt. How dare you suggest you need more protection from players trying to break your legs #cpfc

Maybe @FA could look at the reactions and provocation by some Saints players during the course of this ‘Zaha incident’. Referee obviously didn’t see it so can review the footage. Bringing the game into disrepute? @CPFC

The rules in football are a complete joke! Yes Zaha was stupid! But is clapping really worthy of a bigger punishment than diving and awful tackles?! Someone actually cheats or tries to cheat and they get less of a punishment if any! #CPFC

First clip – Zaha on Ward-Prowse, given as a foul.
Second clip – Ward-Prowse on Zaha, no foul given.

Surely it was on on-field incident that was dealt with by the ref, so he’s had his punishment, no…? And is @Prowsey16 going to be charged for either pretending to throw a ball in Zaha’s face or celebrating his red card? #justasking

@FA now you have charged zaha for inproper conduct, are you going to sack Andre marriner for being incompetent.
you are failing in your duty to protect footballers.
The most shambolic performance in a sea of incompetence.
