Some Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to slam Patrick van Aanholt, after he turned in a terrible performance against Tottenham on Saturday.
The Dutchman was part of a shaky-looking backline who had conceded four goals before the first-half had even finished, and whilst Spurs didn’t extend their lead in the second half, the damage was already done as Palace lost 4-0.
Van Aanholt finished the game with a 5.26 match rating on WhoScored – the lowest out of any player on the pitch – having scored an own goal, as well as having one unsuccessful touch and suffering one dispossession.
He failed to deal with a number of long balls that came his way, and could not contain Spurs’ marauding right-back Serge Aurier, who grabbed an assist.
One fan said that he hopes the former Chelsea man “retires tonight”, while another would drop the 29-year-old for Jeffrey Schlupp until January.
Let’s take a look at some more of the Twitter reaction…
Re-watching the highlights. Hope PvA retires tonight, he’d be doing us all a favour.

I thought he packed it in around the 10th minute.

Don’t like singling people out but I would honestly drop PVA and play Schlupp LB until Jan. #cpfc

Pva been an absolute disgrace, it’s not just him. Guaita on the 4th goal if that was Hennessey he’d be lynched on twitter #cpfc

Patrick van Aanholt has needed dropping for several months now.
Problem is, we don’t have any other senior left full backs….
Got to question the transfer strategy once again. #cpfc #crystalpalace #TOTCRY

Just back…We were awful in 1st, they just played long balls over our defenders and ran for easy finishes. Missed Jimmy Mac and got to say I think JT and Cahill will be our best pairing. PVA and Ward exposed today. Zaha and Ayew worked hard. Townsend was toilet. Luka awol #cpfc
