Crystal Palace fans stage tragic Deadline Day protest

As Deadline Days go, Monday’s one was certainly eventful. Sex toys and crude language aplenty but one story that didn’t get the attention it was after was a staged protest by Crystal Palace fans.

A group made up of an Eagles supporters’ group – Holmesdale Fanatics (me neither) – were filmed lighting fireworks, which led to Sky Sports leaving their station outside of Selhurst Park. Kaveh Solhekol was the journalist removed as it was felt his safety may be compromised.

Usually a Sky Sports journalist will stand outside each Premier League stadium in a hope that the club’s supporters will gather around and cheer the impending transfers, however Crystal Palace fans halted this process when they held up a banner which read ‘Sky Sports – killing our game since 1992’.

The introduction of the Premier League for the 1992/93 season, which was helped by the promise of higher TV payments by Sky Sports is what has seemingly left Crystal Palace fans raging.
