Some Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter in reaction to Gary Cahill’s tweet, saying that the 33-year-old should still be in the England squad.
The former Bolton and Chelsea centre-back – who joined the Eagles on a free transfer back in the summer – has previously earned 61 caps for the England national team, scoring five goals.
Cahill was part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2018 World Cup, but has not been selected since, as he found himself out of favour at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri.
However, he has been in excellent form for the south Londoners this season and you can definitely see where the Palace fans below are coming from.
Cahill has made six Premier League appearances so far under Roy Hodgson, helping Palace pick up four wins and a draw while also keeping two clean sheets – he has made a substantial impact on the defence at Selhurst Park.
Let’s take a look at what the Palace fans on Twitter have been saying about Cahill…
Should be in there tonight mate! You have totally transformed our defence with you’re class. Hope you are enjoying life at Palace? The fan’s back all players whatever the result as long as the commitment and effort is there. Ckub Captain in the making ?❤️??
