According to Calciomercato.com, Crystal Palace are one of three clubs interested in AC Milan attacker Fabio Borini, and bringing the Italian to Selhurst Park would surely be the final nail in Max Meyer's Eagles career.

What's the word, then?

Well, Calciomercato.com reported back in August that the south London outfit had attempted to bring the 28-year-old to the English capital during the summer transfer window, but ultimately failed.

Now, according to the same source, it appears as though Roy Hodgson is still keen on the 5 foot 11 Italian as their interest in him continues, although they could face competition for his signature from Serie A duo Genoa and Torino.

The report adds that the most likely exit route for the former Sunderland and Liverpool man is a loan deal with an option to buy, with him not considered a part of Stefano Pioli's plans any longer.

End of the road for Meyer

Borini may have only played 70 minutes of football for AC in 2019/20 to date, but Palace's continued interest in him suggests he would be a bit more a key player for them.

The 28-year-old was once known as a striker, but he has been used on the left wing – 2o times last season according to those matches where his position was recorded by Transfermarkt – more by the Rossoneri, and even started in a central midfield role in his only start of the campaign on the opening day back in August.

Of course, those are two positions Meyer is also able to feature from – not that that has really been the case this term.

Having played 155 minutes across the opening two Premier League fixtures of the season, he has only played 17 minutes in the top flight since and didn't make the substitutes' bench at all against Chelsea earlier this month.

This follows on from his debut campaign in England when he was named in the starting XI in just 15 of his 35 league appearances, seemingly failing to win his manager over.

His pre-season displays and inclusion in the XI in August suggested that things had changed and this could be his year, but that is clearly not the case – Borini's arrival would only serve to push him closer to the exit door.
