Crystal Palace are ready to put an offer to Liverpool for Christian Benteke that may reach a club-record-smashing £31.5m, according to reports from The Guardian.
The Eagles have already missed out on now Chelsea man Michy Batshuayi this summer after lodging a shock £30m+ offer for the ex-Marseille star, and have since turned their attention to the Reds’ much-maligned hit-man.
Palace’s initial £25m proposal was rebuffed by the Merseyside club, who only signed Benteke from Aston Villa for an eye-watering £32.5m ahead of the 2015/16 season, last week amid speculation they’re holding out for around £30m.
And reports claim that the London club are now ready to put forward a bid in the region of Liverpool’s asking price, which could be worth £31.5m.
It’s understood that an initial £27m, with add-ons making up the remainder, bid is being prepared and that personal terms with the 25-year-old should not be too difficult to negotiate given that he’s out of favour under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The Belgian, who travelled to EURO 2016 with his nation, endured a difficult debut season at Liverpool, and although many have labelled him a big money flop, he actually registered 10 goals in 42 appearances – a respectable tally given that he was largely a substitute during the latter stages of the campaign.
