Crystal Palace were seemingly on the hunt for an attacker in January.

They were believed to be interested in Mbwana Samatta. They also tried to land Jarrod Bowen from Hull City.

However, another forward who was supposedly in the Eagles' sights was Yannick Carrasco.

The Belgium international - who eventually returned to his former side Atletico Madrid - was the subject of loan discussions between Crystal Palace and Dalian Yifang, before moving to the Spanish capital.

However, since he was reunited with Diego Simeone, the former Monaco attacker has done very little to convince those at Selhurst Park that they should've made more effort to capture his signature.

Granted, Carrasco has played only 64 minutes for Atletico Madrid across three appearances, although his impact in those outings has been slim, to say the very least.

The 26-year-old has failed to score a goal or even register an assist, but what is most concerning is his lack of attacking input for Simeone's side.

The international teammate of Christian Benteke hasn't made a single key pass, while he has had just one shot across those three appearances.

Additionally, he has also been dispossessed on three occasions, while also having two unsuccessful touches as Atletico Madrid picked up four points out of a possible nine in the games he featured in.

There is still a long way to go yet and Carrasco may well find his feet once again in Madrid.

However, as things stand, he has done very little to suggest Crystal Palace should've made a bigger effort to sign him, such has been his ineffectiveness from an attacking perspective for the Champions League side.

Roy Hodgson's men definitely needed a fresh input up top - they have scored the fewest Premier League goals this term, created the least big chances and also had fewer shots on target than anyone else - although Carrasco doesn't seem like he would've been the man to solve this problem given his start at the Wanda Metropolitano.
