Ex-Crystal Palace man John Salako weighs in on the club’s Benteke problem

Benteke isn’t the same man he used to be when he was kicking about with Aston Villa.

Once a domineering animal of a striker, he’s slowly degenerated into one of the worst forwards in the Premier League, and by the looks of things, his form isn’t going to improve anytime soon.

Just four goals in Benteke’s previous 53 appearances is the kind of return you’d expect from a low tier Sunday League player, not someone who set the club back a mammoth £27m in August 2016.

And should Palace want to begin to challenge further up the table and build on what is a fairly competent backline, with three clean sheets already this term, the best thing to do now would be to cut ties with the Belgian and never let him return ever again. Sadly, we live in the real world and it seems the Eagles aren’t done with their big money flop just yet.
