The Athletic's Dominic Fifield has given an honest verdict on whether or not Crystal Palace will go back in for Nathan Ferguson this summer.

The Athletic's Dominic Fifield has provided an honest verdict on Nathan Ferguson and Crystal Palace's chances of going back in for the full-back this summer.The West Brom No.36 underwent a medical with the south Londoners just days before the transfer deadline, with a view to completing a move to Selhurst Park worth a potential Â£11m in total.However, complications with the medical tests emerged, as the 19-year-old had a knee issue which the Eagles felt required immediate surgery and the recovery period would rule him out for the rest of the current campaign - the Baggies, on the other hand, did not think it was that serious.

Eventually, the move collapsed, but Fifield has now provided an honest verdict on whether or not the south Londoners will return for the teenager's services.

What did he say?

When asked if he thinks Crystal Palace "will try again" for Ferguson, Fifield said: "Yes, but a lot can happen between now and then".

The Eagles certainly should go back in

As Jack Rosser of The Evening Standard tweeted recently, Ferguson was of interest to clubs from across the continent.

Fifield even mentions in his article detailing how the move broke down that Juventus, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan were all 'tracking his progress' - this is a highly-rated, precocious young talent who Crystal Palace must obtain, so long as his knee issue isn't a career-threatening one.

Aside from his humongous potential, the need for another full-back is undoubtedly huge.

Only Joel Ward stands before Roy Hodgson as a natural option, whereas Patrick van Aanholt is the former England boss' only natural left-back - as it happens, Ferguson can play on both sides, having made 12 appearances on the left and nine on the right this season.
