The Athletic's Dominic Fifield has revealed that West Brom prospect Nathan Ferguson seems to be Crystal Palace's "priority" at full-back as we approach deadline day.

What's the word, then?

Well, The Evening Standard recently revealed that the south Londoners were targeting a late swoop for the 19-year-old, as they look to bolster their full-back positions.

Ferguson will be out of contract in the summer, meaning that he is currently free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs from abroad - the Baggies could look to cash in on their asset now rather than lose him for a small compensation fee in the summer.

The Eagles are yet to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined Manchester United in a deal worth £50m back in June - Joel Ward remains Roy Hodgson's only natural right-back.

What did Fifield say?

As aforesaid, the Athletic journalist revealed that the West Brom No.36 "seems to be" Crystal Palace's "full-back priority".

However, in addition to that nugget of information, Fifield also added that there's "all manner of negotiations on-going this week" and that this deal "will be a long one" - he ended his tweet by saying "let's see what happens".

It comes as a welcome piece of news amid a transfer saga dating back to the eighth day of the month involving Kyle Walker-Peters, who, according to The Athletic's January Transfer Tracker, was believed to be 'close' to joining the Eagles only to still be at Tottenham 20 days later.

On the same day as Fifield's update, Southampton were said to have won the race for the Spurs right-back, although perhaps that is because the Eagles have now honed their sights on Ferguson and are intent on making that deal happen - however, despite the coincidental timing of it all, that is nothing but mere speculation.

Someone's got to own them: Who do these incredibly unwanted PL records belong to?

The West Brom youngster would be a welcome addition for Hodgson, seeing as he is equally adept at playing on either side of defence having made 11 appearances at left-back and nine at right-back - he also has bundles of time on his side to develop.

It would be an excellent signing for the present and for the future if Crystal Palace get this one over the line.

In other news, Fifield has also delivered two nuggets of fresh information regarding Yannick Carrasco...
