Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Sun reported that the Eagles will outbid Celtic in the race to sign Hearts left-back Aaron Hickey.

The 17-year-old - who can also operate in centre-midfield according to the report - is keen to continue playing first-team football, which makes the south Londoners' offer of a loan back to Hearts until the summer an enticing one, whereas he would have to wait for chances at Celtic Park.

Hickey has made 25 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal, while he also started last season's Scottish Cup final against Celtic at the age of just 16.

Former Hearts boss Craig Levein waxed lyrical about the teenager's ability to use both feet, saying: "He is genuinely the most two-footed I’ve ever seen. When he came in, the coaches didn’t even know - some of them thought he was right footed, some thought he was left footed."

Roy Hodgson could do with another left-back to add to his ranks, as he has only Patrick van Aanholt as a natural option for the role, while Jeffrey Schlupp and Jairo Riedewald are capable of providing cover.

Celtic hold a 30% sell-on clause from any sale involving Hickey, as they used to have the Scot in their academy before letting him go.

Let's see how the Crystal Palace fans on Twitter reacted to the news...

To kick off the discussion, HLTCO said that they would "be very pleased with this" before saying that Hickey "looks a real prospect" and a move would "show a definite shift in our previous transfer policy" - the Eagles are believed to be keen to freshen up the squad, as revealed by The Athletic's Dominic Fifield on the HLTCO podcast.

Another fan named Neil replied to HLTCO's tweet, saying "get that academy buzzing".

Elsewhere, these two fans also voiced their approval of the transfer news.

One supporter wrote that it was a "great" update before saying that it "looks like we are thinking of age and the future".

Meanwhile, Cal tweeted that Hickey is "already a quality player at 17" and "has a big future" before adding that he "would be very happy with this".

Lastly, a supporter named George begged for this news to be true - saying please as many as three times - before mentioning that this is "exactly what I've been crying out for in our transfer policy".
