Former Liverpool and England right-back Glen Johnson has hit out at his former manager Roy Hodgson on talkSPORT, when discussing the state of Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's guidance.

Johnson spent time at Anfield under Hodgson's tutelage in the 2010/11 campaign, but only until January of that season before the former Inter Milan boss was sacked and replaced with Kenny Dalglish.

The Merseysiders won only seven of their 20 Premier League games under the current Crystal Palace boss, where Johnson - a 54-cap ex-England international and two-time Premier League winner - made 28 league appearances throughout that 2010/11 campaign, scoring twice and assisting twice.

What did he say?

When discussing Solskjaer's Manchester United, Johnson told talkSPORT: "We had a similar scenario at Liverpool.

"When Hodgson was there, we used to go into the games at Anfield looking forward to the game, and he would instil fear into us where all week it was rigid training, the team was so negative and it was almost like trying to not lose than it was putting them to the sword.

"The players do look at that and think: What's actually going on here?

"We would think, does he not believe in us, does he think we're not that much better than them - it does leak onto the pitch."

Johnson has a point

You only need to look at how Crystal Palace perform at Selhurst Park under Hodgson to see that Johnson has a point.

So far this season, the Eagles have scored only six goals from open play at home, while only winning three of their 13 Premier League outings at Selhurst Park this term.

In the previous campaign, the south Londoners were the only side in England's top-flight to win more of their points away from home than they did on their own turf, while only scoring 19 goals in front of their supporters all season from 19 outings in SE25 - alarmingly, five of those came in the 5-3 win over Bournemouth on the final day.

Also last season, the Eagles didn't didn’t score a goal at Selhurst Park until the end of October and they didn’t win at home until December, as The Guardian also mentions.

Judging by these numbers, you can see what Johnson is saying in regards to Hodgson's negativity.
