Crystal Palace battled their way to a draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

The Eagles were outclassed in the first half, managing just one shot on target and a paltry 33% possession, and the 1-0 scoreline to their opponents at the break could have easily been even worse.

However, by reducing their opponents to the solitary strike, they kept themselves in the game and put themselves in a position to pull things level. They duly did just that through Jordan Ayew, and they were able to come away with a point.

Did he really play for us?! No Palace fan has managed to name all of these obscure Eagles signings....

Even against 10 men, though, they were unable to cause the Gunners too many problems. All in all, they had just three shots on target, but that is not too surprising considering they played with a 4-5-1 formation which obliged the wide men to track back as much as possible.

However, with the likes of Wilfried Zaha at your disposal, there is still a possibility of being dangerous as long as he has some help alongside him. That was not the case this time out though.

In the Premier League recently, we have seen the importance of full-backs go through the roof - just look at the displays of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson, who have an astonishing 45 assists in all competitions between them over the past one-and-a-half seasons. 6ft3 Martin Kelly, though - who ironically used to play for the Reds - still looks stuck in the past.

The 29-year-old offered next to nothing going forward. He had just one cross, zero key passes, and amassed a rather atrocious passing accuracy of 47%. Of course, not all teams play like Liverpool and it must be mentioned that Kelly is as much a centre-back as a right-back these days, but it is not too much to ask for him to provide some kind of threat - after all, Transfermarkt have documented well over 100 games in which he's played as a full-back.

During the transfer window, Palace are clearly eyeing a player in his position. They have been linked already with Joakim Maehle, Rafael da Silva and Kyle Walker-Peters, and a move for the latter would give Roy Hodgson's men a far more attacking edge.

The 22-year-old has just 24 competitive appearances for Tottenham at right-back, but he has managed five assists during that time. Against Bournemouth in December 2018, he even managed three in one match, showing just how creative he can be.

He may not have too many games under his belt, but he has featured in the Champions League, and that is exactly the kind of quality Hodgson needs as he looks to improve his side's attacking ability. Palace have scored just 20 goals this term - for context, only Watford have managed less.

With 142 appearances for Palace, Kelly has been a good servant, but the Eagles are crying out for a reinforcement at right-back. Walker-Peters may just be the man to provide it.

Meanwhile, Palace fans react to their interest in Ligue Un man.
