New Crystal Palace boss targets ex-Spurs strike star

Incoming Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has made out-of-favour Aston Villa striker Darren Bent one of his primary January transfer targets as he looks to keep the London club in the Premier League.

Bent recently completed a one-month loan at Championship club Brighton and Hove Albion and has been made surplus to requirements by Villa boss Paul Lambert, which would mean that an exit in January is likely.

The 30 year-old striker – who has appeared for the England national team 13 times – would bring a wealth of top-flight experience to Selhurst Park. Pardew is understood to have been given £10 million to spend in the transfer window, and with Bent’s contract at Aston Villa due to expire in the summer, he should represent an affordable option.

Crystal Palace face Aston Villa on New Year’s Day, and Pardew is expected to be unveiled as the new Eagles boss before the clash.
